EVENDALE POLICE-FINANCE-RECREATION-ADMINISTRATION
COMMITTEE MINUTES
MONDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2006
The meeting of the Evendale Council Committee for Police, Finance, Recreation and Administration was called to order at 6:00pm. Council members Albrinck (Chairman), Puthoff and Lohmeier were present. . The Village CFO, George Snyder, Recreation Director Dave Nichols, Police Chief, Gary Foust, and Asst to the Mayor, Jack Cameron were also present.
I. Recreation—
Mr Nichols informed the committee that there will be a part time hiring ordinance on the December Agenda. They will use the same part time pay schedule that has been used over the past few years. Some wage scales have been apparently changed on the schedule. Mr Nichols was to provide a copy of the new schedule after the meeting and it is attached to these minutes for reference.
II Police Department—
A. Chief Foust did not have anything specific for the committee but was available to discuss the promotional exams and process. Jeff Albrinck and Chief Foust gave an overview of the recent grievance process, carefully stating only the historical process that had occurred to date. Since one or more grievances are expected to go before full council, no further discussion occurred on this subject.
III Finance Committee—
A. Life Insurance- Mr Snyder has proposed change of life insurance companies from Standard Life to Lincoln. Lincoln has stronger ratings and gives us more flexibility for part time employees who may want to participate.
B Property & Casualty Insurance Review- Mr. Snyder will obtain some cost estimates to have an independent review of our coverage. This has not been done for several years.
C The Appropriation Ordinance may need to be amended before next council meeting due to a Fire Truck repair expense for an unknown amount. There were also some minor amendments to the 2007 Appropriation Ordinance to cover the cost of the PENN Alert System ($2,850), Police Communications and Election.
D Sick Leave Insurance Policy- This will be continued to be evaluated with all other insurance and benefit issues.
E Duke Energy has filed a request with PUCO to increase our gas rates to finance the cost of replacing some gas lines. It is expected to be approved.
There being no further items to come before the committee and upon motion made by Councilmember Doug Lohmeier, seconded by Jeff Albrinck, the meeting was adjourned at 7:05 PM.
